Alan served on HMS Gambia 1950/52 commission as PO(ME). He served in the Royal Navy until 1977 reaching the rank of Fleet Chief MEM (Warrant Officer). He passed away in 2005.
Barry Morgan contributed the following photo to the original HMS Gambia website. He identified everyone except for one, Alan Giddings, and he was identified by Alan's son as he has the same photo in his own collection. My thanks also to Milly Tuck. One of the men was originally named as Taff Jakes. Milly identified him as Sidney "Taff" Jacques, her grandfather. Having his surname spelled as Jakes seems to have been a common mistake.
HMS Gambia's 1952 Fleet Regatta team. Taff Morgan, Ldg. Stoker/Diver Wally Morgan, Sidney "Taff" Jacques, Taff Sinnott, Snr. Engineer, Roberts and PO(ME) Alan Giddings. Photo kindly submitted by Barry Morgan, Wally's Son. Alan Giddings identified by his son, Robert Giddings MBE
Robert very kindly sent the following photos of his father's photo album. Beautiful handwriting!
