George Sutcliffe
George was born on June 3, 1920 at Sandringham, Auckland, New Zealand. He enlisted in 1941, aged 20 and was given the service number NZD 2715. He was an ordinary seaman on HMNZS Achilles and later served as Petty Officer on HMNZS Gambia.
for his service he was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star, Pacific Star (Burma clasp), War Medal 1939-1945, and the New Zealand War Service Medal.
George had a variety of jobs after the war including clerk, taxi driver, greenkeeper and eventually, engineer.
George passed away on July 4, 1999, aged 79, and is buried in Waikumete Cemetery, Glen Eden, Auckland, New Zealand.
