Lance Rodrigues emailed me a photo postcard of Luis Xavier Sebastian Fernandes who was his great grandfather in May 2020. Luckily the back of photo postcard said that the address was "HMS Gambia, Portsmouth."

All I can say about the postcard photo is that at the time it was taken Luis was a Petty Officer with at least 8-years service in the Royal Navy. In the Royal Navy chevrons we awarded for 4 years good conduct, up to a limit of 3 chevrons.
From the commission books, Luis was a Petty Officer Cook serving on HMS Gambia for her 1957/58 commission.
Lance also said that "My dad had come down from Uganda, East Africa to Goa, India for his funeral service but my entire family ended up having their British passports seized during India's Independence and most of grandfathers records and documents were taken away. Two uncles of mine managed to get to UK and are now settled in Middlesex and Cardiff.
Great grandfather and all of his brothers served in the British navy, their names were Domingos Fernandes, Rosario Fernandes, Luis Caetano Fernandes, and Bernado Fernandes."
